Hi, I'm Susie...
For more than 25 years, I have been researching and living what I now teach to parents. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, I taught 5th and 1st grade. I became a stay-at-home mom after giving birth to my son in 1999 and my two daughters in 2002 and 2005. I quickly wondered how a successful teacher of 25+ students could struggle at home with my little classroom of three. That was when my journey truly began.
I went to counseling. I read. I researched and began working toward a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. During this time, I wrote DiddleDots: Tips to Ease the Craziness of Parenting. One hundred parenting tips to help moms organize their homes like a classroom, teach expectations, understand feelings, and instill values. I knew I was on the right path.
Slowly, I continued my coursework while being a stay-at-home mom. After six-and-a-half years, I became a Licensed Associate Counselor in Arizona and began my work as a counselor.
I spent a lot of my time counseling moms. Most of them did not need a diagnosis. They just needed help juggling the craziness of parenting. And so, in 2016, I opened my business, At the Parenting Place, where I continue to teach classes and speak to the community. In 2022, I took the curriculum I created to teach parenting and published The Parenting Backpack: Strategies & Tools to Help You Parent with Confidence.
